Trans poetics, writes Joy Ladin, “are techniques that enable poetic language to reflect the kind of complex, unstable, contradictory relations between body and soul, social self and psyche, that those who see ourselves as transgender experience as acute, definitive, [and] life-changing.” In this workshop, we’ll start exploring different forms of trans poetics might take, and how various poetic techniques, forms, and themes can engender trans poetics (no pun intended). Some questions to be discussed include: What might make a poem trans? Are some poetic techniques more ‘trans’ than others? How can trans poetic techniques be applied to other art forms?
No prior knowledge of poetry required! Pencils and papers provided! All are welcome!
