This workshop was inspired by trans woman Wendy Carlos who is most known for her film soundtracks including: The Shining, A Clockwork Orange and Tron, but also contributed to the development of the first commercially available synthesiser and public awareness around trans people by disclosing and discussing her gender transition in the 1970s. This workshop aims to give a playful and experimental introduction to synthesisers. The goal is not (necessarily) to make music, but to play and experiment, illustrating the invaluable contribution Carlos made on the landscape of electronic music.
This workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Jessica Argo (program leader, Sound for the Moving Image) and Dr. Jamie Iona Ferguson (Y4 lead, Immersive Systems Design), both of whom are musicians alongside their work at GSA.
